The cut of a diamond determines its fire and brilliance by reflecting the light that enters from one mirror-like facet to another before dispersing it through the top of the stone. In order to maximise this fire and brilliance, the cutter must place each facet and angle in exact geometric relation to one another.
Any deviation in the quality of cut compromises the fire and brilliance
of the stone, thus making it look dull and lifeless and dramatically reduces
its appearance and value.
